Cliffords are tackling “heavy feelings of seasonal depression” on their timely new single ‘Marsh’ – take a listen below.
The Irish band have returned with their newest music since their EP ‘Salt Of The Lee’, released last May.
‘Marsh’ pivots between its trepidatious, minimal verses with its explosive chorus, as frontwoman Iona Lynch booms against grinding guitars: “My innocence has taken a beating / And I’m caught in the cold”.
Speaking about the track, Cliffords said: “‘Marsh’ is a song that explores the heavy feelings of seasonal depression. When the weight of it makes the air feel thick and hard to move through. Appreciating the little moments like the winter sun or walks with friends eases the overwhelming thoughts and feelings.”

We spoke to Cliffords last June, where Lynch reflected on the makings of song ‘Dungarvan Bay’ – written after the death of a close friend.
“I don’t think you move on from grief, it just becomes a part of you,” she told us. “I’m devastated he passed away, and I think of him every day, but you can’t change those things in your life, and you do have an option of what you do about it. I didn’t want this song to be that version of grief that’s super devastating and all-consuming.
“There were parts of it that were really beautiful – as friends, we went camping in Dungarvan for a week, and we had some really great nights out. I wanted it to reflect this growth of it still being there, but changed.”
