After calling off a gig in Pittsburgh, Carey was forced to cancel two additional shows in New Jersey and New York
Mariah Carey is still sadly unable to spread any holiday cheer at the moment, with the official Queen of Christmas canceling two more shows on her holiday tour due to an ongoing illness.
Carey announced that she was calling off her show in Newark, New Jersey tonight, Dec. 13, and her gig in Belmont Park, New York on Dec. 15. This comes after she canceled her Dec. 11 gig in Pittsburgh just hours before the concert was set to begin.
“Newark and Belmont – I wish I had better news but unfortunately I’m still sick and have to cancel the shows tonight and on Sunday,” Carey wrote on social media. I’m really devastated about it and appreciate your support. Love, MC.”
As it stands, Carey will return to the stage next Tueday, Dec. 17, for the final show of her tour at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
When announcing the Pittsburgh cancellation, Carey said, “I’ve come down with the flu. It breaks my heart that I unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. I love you all so much.”
Some fans didn’t learn about the last-minute cancelation until they arrived at Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena. “We didn’t get anything telling us that it was cancelled,” one family that traveled from Youngstown, Ohio told WTAE. “We didn’t know until we arrived and we saw a paper you know when you get to the entry to get your ticket for it there was a paper taped on.”
Her Christmas Time Tour, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of her 1994 album Merry Christmas and its hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” will conclude with two New York shows, December 15 at Belmont’s UBS Arena and December 17 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
