Christian Nodal’s ‘No Te Contaron Mal’ Passes 1 Billion Views on YouTube

Christian Nodal’s “No Te Contaron Mal” scores a pass to the club. YouTube’s Billion Views Club, that is.

Directed by Omar Torres and Victor Zambrano, the official video to Nodal’s 2018 smash passes the milestone on YouTube, and is the regional Mexican artist’s second to clear the mark following the official video for “Adiós Amor,” which got the job done in 2020.

“No Te Contaron Mal” appeared on Nodal’s sophomore album Ahora from 2019, and was penned by producer and songwriter Edgar Barrera. Following its release, the track logged 38 weeks atop Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart, won a Latin Grammy and went on to win regional Mexican song of the year at the BMI Latin Awards.

“This song is super special to me because it’s the first song I wrote with Christian Nodal and it’s the song that started our friendship,” Barrera told Billboard. “I knew the song would become something special because it was born in such an organic way.”

Barrera got in touch with Nodal early in the artist’s career, soon after the release of “Adiós Amor,” and suggested they work together. “Luckily, a mutual friend introduced us and I flew to Guadalajara [Jalisco, Mexico] in summer of 2018 to meet Christian and we drove to this remote city called Jalpa where there’s no Internet, no cell phone connection and that same day, we wrote the song,” he explained. Barrera picked up the guitar that night and Nodal began sharing a personal story. “No Te Contaron Mal,” which tells the tale of an infidelity, was written in just 30 minutes.

Nodal’s latest studio album, the mariacheño experience Bandera Blanca (via JG Music/Sony Music México), dropped in May of this year. Nodal has supported the collection with his Pa’l Cora Tour 2026.
