Singer previously sued for beating a music producer with a tequila bottle at a London nightclub in February 2023
Chris Brown was arrested Thursday in England, stemming from an incident that occurred at a London nightclub in February 2023.
Brown, who was sued back in October 2023 over the alleged “bottle attack,” was charged with suspicion of grievous bodily harm, London Metropolitan police confirmed to the Sun and the Manchester Evening News.
“A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm,” London police said. “He has been taken into custody, where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
A rep for Brown did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.
In October 2023, music producer Amadou “Abe” Diaw filed a $16 million lawsuit against Brown, accusing the singer of “beating him over the head” with a tequila bottle and “ruthlessly” stomping on him when they were both at a London nightclub the previous February.
Diaw’s lawsuit also claimed that he “inflicted severe and lasting injuries” from the attack, including “lacerations on his head and torn ligaments in his leg,” and that he suffered “serious and permanent emotional distress and trauma” following the attack.
“He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well,” Diaw told the Sun, adding that he was hospitalized after the attack.

Following the Feb. 2023 incident, it wasn’t known whether Brown was also facing a criminal investigation over the attack. However, when informed that Brown had landed in Manchester this week, he was apprehended on charges related to the attack.
Brown is scheduled to begin a 20th anniversary tour next month that includes over 10 gigs in the U.K; it’s not yet known if his arrest will impact those dates.
