Cher Discusses ‘Hard’ Memoir Process, Confirms New Album on ‘Fallon’

Cher stopped by The Tonight Show to chat about her recently-released memoir, Cher, The Memoir: Part One, and took the opportunity to announce that she is making new music.

“It was hard,” the singer told host Jimmy Fallon of writing her memoir, which chronicles her early life as Cherilyn Sarkisian and her rise to fame, including meeting and marrying Sonny Bono, and forming the husband-and-wife Sixties duo Sonny & Cher.

“It was a bitch,” she continued. “It’s not going through your life that’s hard so much. But I did it a couple of times because the first time it didn’t work out. The second time I just didn’t want to tell anything. And then I thought, ‘You know what? Give back the money.’ It’s hard because when you’re telling your life there’s parts you’d like to guard.”

She added that her life is “much more complicated than you guys can ever imagine and much more complicated than you know.”

Cher will release the second part of her memoir, dubbed Part Two, next year. The singer was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Ozzy Osbourne, A Tribe Called Quest, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, and Kool & The Gang.

She recounted her experience at the induction ceremony in October, during which she performed with Dua Lipa and the Roots. “I love her,” Cher said of Dua. “She’s so nice. We got along so well. I was a little bit nervous, but we hit it off like crazy.”

Towards the end of the interview, Fallon asked, “Could there be another album? Would you do another one?” Cher, who unveiled a greatest hits compilation, Forever, earlier this year, confirmed, “I’m about to.”

Fallon also enlisted Cher for a parody ’80s talk show, Tim and Tam Variety Hour, which involved one of the hosts being accused of fake dancing.
