Check out Muse’s funk-driven new single ‘Nightshift Superstar’

Muse have dropped the funk-led, French house-tinged single ‘Nightshift Superstar’, tune in below.

The track arrives today (Friday June 5) and is the latest to be released from the band’s 10th album, ‘The Wow! Signal’.

Whereas the last single ‘Hexagons’ was the band nod back to their early sound, and previous tracks ‘Unravelling‘ and ‘Be With you’ embraced maximalism and cinematic instrumental layering, the latest taster of ‘The Wow! Signal’ sees Matt Bellamy and co. push their sound into new experimental avenues.

Centred around a driving disco rhythm, ‘Nightshift Superstar’ comes to life with the funky French house chorus, and is completed with shimmery guitar riffs, synth flurries, and heartfelt vocals.

Kiss that kills the pain, I crave again / Now I can’t stay clean, you’re my darkest dream / I need you one more time / Dancing free, you are a nightshift superstar,” Bellamy sings, capturing a similar sci-fi landscape to that of recent single ‘Cryogen’.

While the new track stands out from the other singles shared from ‘The Wow! Signal’, the nods to disco and funk aren’t entirely new to Muse, having also been referenced in 2012’s ‘Panic Station’ and fan favourite ‘Supermassive Black Hole’.

The new album is set for release on June 26 (pre-order here) and gets its title from one of the most compelling interstellar mysteries of the last century – a powerful 72-second radio burst detected in 1977, which originated from the constellation Sagittarius.

Its bandwidth and intensity suggested a possible extraterrestrial source.

When the anomaly was first discovered, the astronomer famously circled the sequence ‘6EQUJ5’ and wrote ‘WOW!’ on the printout beside it – giving the signal its name.

Muse have also announced a 2026 North American arena tour with Bloc Party, The Temper Trap and Portugal. The Man. UK and European dates are expected to be announced shortly, following Bellamy teasing at a recent London gig that the band would “be back in November”.
