Check out Jamie xx’s trancey cover of Robyn’s ‘Dopamine’

Jamie xx has shared his trancey remix of Robyn‘s ‘Dopamine’.

Last month, the NME Songwriter Of The Decade winner announced her euphoric return to music with ‘Dopamine‘, released via her new label home Young. It’s the Swedish singer-songwriter’s first new music in seven years since 2018’s critically acclaimed ‘Honey‘.

Now, Jamie xx has teamed up with Robyn to put his own twist on ‘Dopamine’. His remix is considerably darker than the original, featuring skittering synths, gurgling basslines and chugging breaks.

Speaking about the collaboration, Jamie said: “I had a blast making this remix, the original song is so great it was mega fun to get to play around with it. Thanks Robyn! Looking forward to playing it on some dance floors v soon”.

Take a listen to Jamie xx’s remix of ‘Dopamine’ below:

The last time Robyn and Jamie worked together was on the track ‘Life’ off his 2024 album ‘In Waves‘, which NME gave four stars: “With ‘In Waves’, almost a decade on from the triumph of ‘In Colour’, Jamie xx remains in bloom.”

Speculation about Robyn’s return to music was fuelled in September when her longtime collaborator, Klas Åhlund, appeared on the Nordmark Pod and said he had “just finished a new Robyn album that’s coming out”.

Then, the singer previewed new music at Acne Studios’ show at Paris Fashion Week last month. Though she was secretive about the sound of her new album, she told Dazed she had used “sounds and some lyrics to build a new collage which is very personal and real”.

Meanwhile, The xx have also teased their own return with rehearsal footage for their slot at Coachella 2026.

Since the band’s 2017 album ‘I See You‘, Romy and Oliver Sim combined forces on Jamie xx’s 2024 single ‘Waited All Night’ from his album ‘In Waves’ – the first time they had been together since ‘I See You’.

Speaking to NME on the red carpet at the 2024 BRIT Awards about new music, Romy shared: “We’re just keeping it really open and we’re up for trying new things, but it sounds like us. That’s all I can say right now.”

Meanwhile, the last time Robyn dropped music was with ‘Honey’, which NME gave four stars: “Whether she’s craving escape by way of the dancefloor, the white beaches of Ibiza, or a proverbial dip into the honey-pot, ‘Honey’ acknowledges that deep, throbbing pain can sit alongside escapist pleasure.

“From an artist who conjures up so many lofty titles – pop genius being one of them – this is a record that takes an altogether different tack to cut through to the raw, complex tangle of emotion.”
