Host Graham Norton played a clip of Grohl and his daughter Harper dancing to Charli’s Brat track “Apple,” a video that circulated widely in 2024. In the clip, Harper stands and leads a seated Grohl through choreographed moves to the song.

Asked for her reaction after seeing it for the first time, Charli described Grohl’s style as unconventional but effective. “You’re taking like an abstract approach, and that’s cool,” she told him.

Grohl acknowledged that choreography is not a regular part of the band’s stage routine. “We don’t,” he said when Norton asked whether Foo Fighters do a lot of dance moves.

Later in the episode, Foo Fighters performed “Your Favorite Toy,” the lead single from their forthcoming 12th studio album of the same name, due April 24. Jason Falkner joined the band on guitar in place of Pat Smear, who is recovering from a broken foot sustained in what Grohl described as a gardening accident. Smear was represented visually during the performance by an image of his face on the kick drum.

The performance also featured backing vocals from Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears and Babydaddy.

During his interview segment, Grohl reflected on the band’s longevity and what informed the timing of the new album. “We’ve been a band for 30 years now, right? And so we’ve all grown together, and we’ve all been through life together, ups and downs,” he said. “Honestly, it’s more than a musical thing.”

He added that the band’s approach to new music is shaped by their current stage in life. “When we go and approach a new record, it’s all determined by where we’re at in our lives,” he said, joking that the group has become “a bunch of grumpy old men.”

“You’d imagine that as you get a bit older, that things sort of soften … It doesn’t,” Grohl continued before letting out a scream. “It’s kinda like that now. That’s where we’re at now.”

Your Favorite Toy marks Foo Fighters’ first album since Ilan Rubin joined the lineup as drummer.
