Charli XCX “perfect” for ‘100 Nights Of Hero’, says director

The director of 100 Nights Of Hero has said that Charli XCX was “perfect” for her role in the graphic novel adaptation.

The film is based on the graphic novel by Isabel Greenberg, which was inspired by the Middle Eastern folktales One Thousand and One Nights. It will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on September 6, followed by a US cinema release on December 5. A UK release date has not yet been announced.

Among those on the star-studded cast are Emma Corrin, Nicholas Galitzine, Maika Monroe, and Charli XCX – who featured in the new trailer for the movie.

The official synopsis reads: “When a charming house guest (Galitzine) arrives at a remote castle, the delicate dynamic between a neglectful husband, his innocent bride Cherry (Monroe), and their devoted maid Hero (Corrin), is thrown into chaos.”

Now, director Julia Jackman has opened up about casting Charli in the period fantasy, and said meeting the singer made her realise that she was “perfect” for the role.

“It was before the news had broken that she was interested in acting,” the director said (via Variety). “It was a very pleasant surprise when someone said to me: I think she might vibe with the film.”

Jackman said that she was hesitant to book someone who is “one of the most famous people in the world right now”, but was convinced after talking to Charli last summer.

“She had brought her iPad and her notes and was very open and keen to not force things,” the director said. “And as we were speaking, I heard her dry sense of humour, and there was a shyness and demureness I wasn’t expecting. So I felt that she could be perfect to play this mythical fairy-tale figure.”

The fantasy film is one of multiple acting projects the ‘Von Dutch’ singer has in the works, having already played a comedic version of herself in the Prime Video series Overcompensating earlier this year.

She is soon to star in Erupcja, a drama she also co-wrote, as well as the adventure-comedy Sacrifice alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans.

Charli has also proven herself to be an avid film fan too, making regular recommendations via TikTok, leaving reviews on Letterboxd, and pitching an It Girl edition of the Final Destination franchise. She also recently shared a scene from her upcoming mockumentary film, The Moment.

This comes seemingly marked the end of her ‘Brat‘ era – playing her last scheduled show in South Korea last month, after a packed summer that saw headline performances at Glastonbury, Primavera Sound and London’s LIDO Festival.
