Charli xcx on chances of recording James Bond theme: “I don’t think I am built for that”

Charli xcx has discussed the possibility of recording a James Bond theme, saying she does not think she is “built” for it.

The ‘Brat’ star has recorded the soundtrack album for Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights, starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. That album arrives on February 13 and it is available to pre-order here.

She is also moving to become more active as an actor, with a number of projects lined up over the next year, and now the prospect has been raised of her possibly recording a theme song for a Bond movie.

The history of signature songs in the Bond franchise is rich, with names like Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey and Paul McCartney recording vintage entries, while more recently it has fallen to the likes of Adele, Sam Smith and Billie Eilish.

During an appearance on The Julia Cunningham Show, she said: “I got to say, I don’t think that I am built for that. I think I probably sing with too much AutoTune to do a James Bond.”

“Never say never,” she continued. “I’m open to it if they want to call me, which they won’t but, yeah. I think it might not be a fit, but that’s, well, yeah. It’s not going to happen now, is it? So amazing. I don’t know.”

Another big homegrown name being linked with the next Bond theme is Oasis, with Noel Gallagher recently saying he would be interested, describing it as “an absolute honour” and saying “those kind of things should be done by Brits not Yanks”.

Amazon MGM took over creative control of the Bond franchise last year, and Dune‘s Denis Villeneuve has since been confirmed as the director of the next film, with Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight set to be overseeing the screenplay.

The new producers are said to be looking for a “fresh face” to take on the lead role, after Daniel Craig bowed out after 2021’s No Time To Die. No actor has been announced yet, but Callum Turner became the bookies favourite last month.

Charli’s Wuthering Heights soundtrack comes after she revealed that she was “currently feeling more inspired by film than by music” after being left “stuck, empty and barren” after her breakthrough album ‘Brat‘.

In May 2025, she then hinted that she was expecting her next, non-Wuthering Heights album to go in a completely different direction than ‘Brat’, explaining: “You can never really do the same thing twice and my next record will probably be a flop, which I’m down for to be honest.”

She also has a mockumentary on the way called The Moment, which is set to hit UK cinemas on February 20.
