The trailer for Erupcja, the new romantic drama starring Charli XCX, has been released, telling the story of a woman facing her past while on holiday with her boyfriend.
The film is the latest in a series of movie projects for the ‘Brat’ singer, currently playing a fictional version of herself in The Moment, as well as having a supporting role in the fantasy 100 Nights Of Hero.
The artist has also written music for the forthcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights starring Margot Robbie.
In the trailer for Erupcja, slated for release in April in the US (a UK date is yet to be confirmed), she plays Bethany, a woman visiting Warsaw in Poland with her boyfriend (Will Madden). She’s content in the relationship, but is unsure if it’s something with a future.
When the couple are stranded by a volcanic eruption, she seeks out childhood friend Nel (Lena Góra) and retreats to places from her past. You can watch the full clip below.
The trailer features her character seeing the sights of Warsaw with her doting boyfriend, clearly keeping his affection at arm’s length. The trailer gains an air of mystery when Bethany seeks out Nel, with hints at a tumultuous edge to their bond (“every time we get together, a volcano erupts” Nel remarks). There are also many clips of the pair partying, and a sense that this reunion may shatter her current relationship.
This is Charli XCX’s most significant acting role thus far, with The Moment being a blend of fictional scenes and real life footage from the ‘Brat’ world tour. She also played a comedic version of herself in the TV show Overcompensating.
Recently, she was cast alongside Supergirl star Milly Alcock in a new horror film, directed by Takasi Miike, which she described as “a dream come true.”
Outside of film, actor Jason Bateman was criticised for questioning Charli XCX about having children when she was a guest on his podcast.
