Chappell Roan says she wants to collaborate with SZA: “Pls we must”

Chappell Roan has admitted that her “dream” collaboration would be with SZA.

The former NME Cover star made the admission after she was asked who her “dream artist to collaborate with” would be on the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast.

SZA took to her Instagram Stories yesterday (March 26) to share a snippet from the podcast, writing: “Actually didn’t believe this quote when I saw it written til I saw it come out her mouth [just] now ’cause DEAD A– SAME.”

She continued, “pls we must,” with a string of sparkle emojis.

SZA has been a longtime fan of Roan, often gushing over her on social media. After the singer performed at Lollapalooza last summer, SZA wrote: “She makes me wanna keep making new music n art forever.”

It comes after SZA also revealed earlier this week that Taylor Swift “was open” to writing something together.

“It’s so interesting to me,” she said. “Every time she walks up to me or approaches me, I’m just like, ‘All right, this is happening, because that’s fully Taylor Swift’. I think what I mentioned was that I would love to write with her and love to build some things together.”

“I love her storytelling. She was open to it,” the ‘Kill Bill’ artist added. “I think she’s awesome. She’s so bossed up.”

She also heaped praise on Roan again, Doechii and Gracie Abrams for their songwriting. “I love storytelling. There’s something about that type of storytelling,” she added. “It’s a deep inner storytelling that reflects their human experience and it reflects that.”

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Roan’s interview, she also reflected on setting boundaries with her friends and why she thinks “people are scared” of her.

Last year, Roan’s feelings about fame consistently made headlines, with her comparing it to “an abusive ex-husband”. In an interview with The Face, she vented about the normalisation of extreme fan behaviour including “stalking, talking shit online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public.” She added: “I didn’t know it would feel this bad.”

Now, she has said: “I think people are scared of me. I think I made a big enough deal about not talking to me, that people do not talk to me. I think that’s the truth of it all.”
