The Beach Boys legend died in June at the age of 82
Two months after the death of Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys legend was laid to rest at Los Angeles’ Westwood Memorial Park.
His daughter Carnie Wilson, singer of the Nineties trio Wilson Phillips, wrote a heartfelt post on Instagram about her father’s burial. “Today we laid my Daddy to rest,” she said. “It was incredibly difficult to see that happen, but at the same time it gave more closure and more of a feeling of restful peace. The last eight weeks have been extremely challenging and like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I love and miss him so much and I wish he could come back.”
She added: “There’s so many signs that he gives me every day and I know that he’s around … he can hear me and he can see me. He makes that apparent. I’m so grateful for this. Today we had a couple of monarch butterflies that just would not leave the site. It was comforting and beautiful. I’m trying to deal with my emotions — they’re so up and down. I know that he would want everybody to feel happy and not sad. He didn’t like it when I cried.”
Wilson died on June 11 at the age of 82; his funeral was held in July. The cause of death was “respiratory arrest,” with sepsis and cystitis listed as contributing factors. He was cremated and interred next to his brother and bandmate Carl, who died of lung cancer in 1998.

Upon his death, Carnie wrote that Wilson was “every fiber my body …I’ve never felt this kind of pain before, but I know he’s resting up there in heaven … or maybe playing the piano for Grandma Audree his Mom.” His bandmate and cousin, Mike Love, honored him (he also spoke about him at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony), as did Beach Boy Al Jardine.
Countless tributes from fellow musicians also flooded in, including Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Paul McCartney, Elton John, and others. When Bob Dylan found out about Wilson’s death, he “thought about all the years I’ve been listening to him and admiring his genius.”
