Can Jinu return for potential ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ sequels? Voice actor weighs in

(Warning: Spoilers for KPop Demon Hunters ahead)

A voice actor for KPop Demon Hunters has weighed in on a potential return from Jinu in possible sequel films.

The animated film arrived on Netflix in June and quickly became their most watched original animated film of all time, amassing a huge community of fans.

KPop Demon Hunters follows a K-pop girl group named Huntr/x, who lead double lives as demon hunters and face off against a rival boy band The Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons.

The Saja Boys are fronted by the demon Jinu, who finds himself developing feelings for Huntr/x leader Rumi. Towards the end of the film, Jinu sacrifices himself to save humanity. While that seemingly marked the end of the KPop Demon Hunters story, it has since been talk of a live-action remake entering production, as well as two animated sequels and even a stage musical.

With future sequels in the works, fans have been hoping for Jinu’s resurrection. Now, actor Ahn Hyo-Seop – who voiced Jinu in the film – has weighed in on a potential return. Speaking to USA Today, Ahn shared: “I mean, Jinu gave his soul, so like I never really imagined how he would come back. As someone who loves Jinu as a fan, too, of course I would love to see him come back. But it’s not up to me.”

Ahn also revealed that fans of the character in South Korea had even left memorial flowers at Namsan Tower where the character died.

The fictional group’s single ‘Golden’ is the current UK Number One single, becoming only the second K-pop song ever to achieve that feat, after Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’. The Saja Boys’ song ‘Your Idol’ has also seen major chart success, reaching the second spot on the US charts last month, which means they have surpassed BTS’ record for the highest-charting K-pop boy band in the country. BTS responded to the achievement by posting a video of themselves singing along to ‘Your Idol’.

The film’s success has also led to its upcoming screenings at selected cinemas across the UK for sing-a-longs during the August Bank Holiday weekend – you can see a list of participating cinemas and buy your tickets here.
