After a month off the road to recover from a pair of major surgeries, Bret Michaels is gearing up to hit the stage again. The singer revealed over the weekend that he will be back to live performance on Oct. 16 with a show at Founders Square Amphitheater in Portage, Ind., a date that was rescheduled from its original Aug. 7 slot.
The other shows on the newly rolled-out roster of gigs include a two-night stand at Island Resort and Casino in Harris, Mich. on Nov. 13 and 14.
Michaels was rushed to a hospital in July, where he was diagnosed with a complex obstructing kidney stone that required emergency surgery, following several shows in which the singer said he was suffering with “intense” pain. On Aug. 22, Michaels posted a note explaining that after he’d tried to get on stage the night before in Sugar Hill, Ga. following the two procedures, he and his doctors decided to cancel the rest of this year’s planned shows.
At the time, they said Michaels was planning to take “the next several months off to heal an get back to 100%.”
In a series of Instagram posts over the past few days, Michaels, 63, has opened up about his thoughts about returning to the road, writing in one about his lifelong battle with diabetes. He described how his friends and family didn’t always understand the “unbelievably complicated” disease and how it has motivated him to always be “prepared to achieve things.”
“Just like now, setting a goal to come back and rock the stage for a few special shows, and truly hoping to see an all-original Poison reunion in either 2027 or 2028, depending on how things go health-wise,” Michaels teased, noting that Sunday’s game between his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots he was working out hard and accidentally kicked a 20-pound weight, breaking two toes.
Before the game, he also encouraged fans to get tickets for the upcoming trio of shows. “You know I’m gonna give it all I’ve got,” he promised.” In addition, last week, Michael appeared to add a fourth stop to the short outing on his Live & Amplified run, a Nov. 29 “Hometown Holiday Show” at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg, Pa.
Michaels has also booked a berth on the 14th Rock Legends tour, which will travel from Miami to Costa Maya, Mexico from Feb. 21-25, which will also feature sets from Foreigner, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Collective Soul, Alan Parsons Live Project, Gin Blossoms, The Fixx and more.
