Brandon Blackstock, ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, dies aged 48

Brandon Blackstock, the ex-husband and former manager of Kelly Clarkson, has died at the age of 48.

The news was confirmed by Blackstock’s family, who told People that he passed away from cancer. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” they said. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.”

They added: “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Earlier in the day, Clarkson had announced that she had postponed the remainder of her ‘August Studio Session’ dates at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas so that she could be “fully present” for her family and for her “children’s father”.

“I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding,” she explained.

Blackstock and Clarkson were married between 2013 and 2022 and they had two children together – River Rose, 11, and Remington Alexander, 9.

Blackstock continued to serve as Clarkson’s manager after the divorce, and he had also managed Blake Shelton in the past.

His split from Clarkson was acrimonious, with the American Idol winner having spoken about an “extraordinarily hard” depression that she suffered after the divorce. Her 2023 album ‘Chemistry’ saw her confront some of the emotional turmoil of that period.

Legal proceedings also followed in 2023, with a ruling in California saying that Blackstock had improperly made deals for Clarkson that should have been handled by her agent team. He was ordered to pay her $2.6million (£1.9million).

Blackstock also had two children, Savannah and Seth, from a previous marriage, and became a grandfather in 2022 when Savannah had a son named Lake.
