Brand New have announced details of their first US tour in seven years, and participating venues have disabled comments on social media.
The news of a new tour will see the band play 24 shows across the US later this year, and comes just days after they played their first public reunion show since 2017.
News of the return came in March, when members launched their own website and told followers they would be playing three shows at the end of the month. Three gigs were held in Texas, and they marked the first since a secret and intimate reunion show in December last year.
It also arrived following the band being on a hiatus after frontman Jesse Lacey was accused of sexual misconduct involving a minor in 2017. The news led to their UK tour at the time being cancelled and their music was removed from Spotify ‘Wrapped’ lists after two more women came forward with additional allegations.
Now, the band have announced details of a full tour taking place in the US later this year. The new run of shows kicks off at the end of next month with opening nights at the WAMI Theater in Seattle and the Theater Of The Clouds venue in Portland on May 30 and 31 respectively.
From there, 20 shows are planned for the following month, including stops in Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Austin, Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, Cleveland, Newark, Columbus and more, before the tour ends with two shows in July. These include a show at the TD Pavilion at the Mann in Philadelphia on July 1, followed by a closing night at UBS Arena in Belmont Park the day after (2).

With the shows coming following the allegations around Lacey, it appears that there may be some anticipation of backlash around the shows. This was noticed by eagle-eyed fans on social media, as it seems that participating venues have switched off comments for the social media posts announcing the news.
A number of venues were contacted by outlets including Consequence for comment, although none have yet shared a public response.
It is worth noting that when the allegations arose, Lacey responded by offering an apology for “the actions of my past” which he said had “caused pain and harm to a number of people.”
It appears that every venue that booked Brand New for its Comeback From Sexual Misconduct Tour has agreed to disable comments on social media posts promoting the show. Despicable stuff! pic.twitter.com/1S3ppY0sVJ

“I want to say that I am absolutely sorry. I do not stand in defense of myself nor do I forgive myself. I was selfish, narcissistic, and insensitive in my past, and there are a number of people who have had to shoulder the burden of my failures,” he said at the time.
“I apologise for the hurt I have caused, and hope to be able to take the correct actions to earn forgiveness and trust.”
Brand New shared their fifth and most recent album ‘Science Fiction’ eight years ago, and then began hinting that it would be their final album around the time of its release. This was seen as the members began selling t-shirts bearing the dates “2000-2018” – although this was before the allegations against Lacey came to light.
