Bowen Yang Addresses Chappell Roan SNL Skit Backlash

After dressing up as Moo Deng on SNL and referencing Chappell Roan’s struggles in the spotlight, Bowen Yang has addressed the backlash he received for the skit. Keep watching to see what he says.

Colin Jost:

I have to say Moo Deng, your life sounds a lot like Chappell Roan’s lately. Do you know who Chappell Roan is?

Bowen Yang:

I’m ten weeks old Colin of course I know Chappell Roan.

Tetris Kelly:

Some fans felt like Bowen Yang was mocking Chappell Roan with his skit on Saturday Night Live over the weekend.

Bowen Yang:

Do not yell my name or expect a photo. Just because I’m your parasocial bestie or because you appreciate my talent.

Tetris Kelly:

While portraying the viral pygmy hippo, Moo Deng, Bowen calls back to a lot of the struggles Roan has had from setting boundaries to making her political support clear.

Chappell Roan:

Yeah I’m voting for f—ing Kamala. But I’m not settling for what has been offered.

Bowen Yang:

I know I’m only ten weeks old. But this is very important to me so please listen. I will not be making an endorsement in this year’s election.

Tetris Kelly:

Chappell hasn’t spoken out herself, but Bowen posted on IG “If my personal stance and the piece aren’t absolutely clear in terms of supporting her then here it is I guess.” Bowen actually interviewed Chappell for Interview Magazine where they talked about the struggle of fame and being misunderstood. We’ll see if she addresses the skit when she is the musical guest on SNL, November 2nd.
