Bomba Estéreo and Rawayana Are Taking Their Supergroup on Tour

Bomba Estéreo and Rawayana are taking their supergroup Astropical — and subsequently their self-titled debut collaborative album — on tour. The two groups will share the stage for 16 shows across North America beginning in May.

The Astropical tour will kick off on May 24 in Montreal and extend through Sept. 12, when the groups will perform together in Berkeley. Artist presales will begin on Tuesday, March 11 at 10 a.m. local time.

“I’m really pleased and happy with this project,” Bomba Estéreo’s Li Saumet told Variety. “It’s new and exciting and it gives me the opportunity to add new things to my performance — new characters, new sides of myself — that push me to leave comfort zone and enter a more experimental and collaborative space.”

Astropical first took shape when Saumet received a demo of what would become “Me Pasa” from Rawayana lead vocalist Beto Montenegro. Within six hours, they recently told Rolling Stone, the song was complete. Soon enough, two additional tracks emerged. Then came the full-length album.

“Beto came to my house in Santa Marta for songwriting sessions,” Saumet said. “We were walking on the beach and started analyzing the traits of our respective astrological signs. I was looking for a fresh project because I’m in a new stage of my life, and creating new music is always so inspiring.”

Montenegro added: “Li’s voice is sharp, nasal and high-pitched. I’ve always envied that kind of voice, because usually people tell me that mine sounds sweet. There’s a contrast there, and that’s why we sound so cool together.”
