Blake Shelton Prepping ‘Texas’ Single: ‘It Feels Really Important To Me’

Blake Shelton was born in Oklahoma, but the singer will be in a Lone Star state of mind (again) on his upcoming single. Shelton will release the song “Texas” on Friday (Nov. 15), which a press release described as a “fresh and addictive” track that “captures the classic theme of lost love with a twist and nod to George Strait.”

“The thing that struck me about ‘Texas’ immediately was how different it sounded for me, and I’m always looking to push myself,” Shelton said in a statement about the song written by Johnny Clawson, Kyle Sturrock, Josh Dorr and Lalo Guzman. “I think there’s something really special about this record and it feels important to me.”

“Texas,” produced by Shelton’s longtime producer Scott Hendricks, is the singer’s debut for BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville and Wheelhouse Records an in an Instagram post he promised that a video for the song would also drop on Friday. “This is the perfect opportunity to come back with something so different, and it easily felt like it should be the first single,” added Shelton. “It’s connected with what I’ve done but moves forward at the same time, and it’s the perfect start to the next chapter of my career.”

According to a description of the track, it tells the tale of a man “left in the dust by a free-spirited woman who has no clue where she has gone but speculates that she’s probably in Texas. It’s wrapped up in classic Texas charm, with a catchy call-and-response that invites listeners to sing along.” Check out the single’s cover here.”

“Texas” is Shelton’s first new solo single in two years (since 2023’s “No Body”) and it serves as a nice bookend to his first airplay chart hit, 2001’s “Austin,” though at press time it was unclear if it was the first taste of his follow-up to the 2021 album Body Language.

Shelton will perform “Texas” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Nov. 20. The singer will also be busy on the road in 2025, playing gigs on his “Live in Las Vegas” residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in February before hitting the road with his Friends and Heroes tour, slated to kick off on Feb. 27 in Lexington, KY with support from Craig Morgan, Deana Carter, Trace Adkins and Emily Ann Roberts.
