Shelton joins the series after stepping down as a judge of The Voice earlier this year
Blake Shelton is returning to his roots of helping discover emerging artists on singing competition shows — but this time, he won’t be in a spinning chair. The country star and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan have teamed up to search for the next music star in the CBS competition show The Road, expected to be released in Fall 2025.
On The Road, artists will join the headliner on tour, performing as opening acts at venues throughout the country. They will have to compete to win over local fanbases in order to stay on the tour and land a spot in the next city. The artist headlining the tour has yet to be announced. The show also aims to help prepare prospective stars for the demanding schedule of a multi-date tour.
“There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture,” Sheridan said in a statement to Deadline. “No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”
MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Lucky Horseshoe Productions — a company founded by The Voice executive producer Lee Metzger — will produce the upcoming show.
“I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, Lee, on The Road,” Shelton said to Deadline. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”
