BLACKPINK’s Rosé says her best songs were written when “life has been pretty bad” on ‘Hot Ones’

BLACKPINK singer Rosé has opened up about her songwriting process during a brand-new appearance on Hot Ones.

In the latest episode of First We Feast’s Hot Ones, Korean-Australian singer Rosé appeared to discuss her upcoming album ‘rosie’, songwriting and BLACKPINK’s strengths. During the episode, she shared that some of her best songwriting sessions have come out of difficult times in her life.

When asked about her ideal conditions for creativity the singer shared: “I don’t want to say this, but usually when I’m kind of, for me, it’s been like an experience of ‘wow, life has been pretty bad lately’.”

“It’s always been the best sessions,” she shared with a laugh. “Because I’ve left all that there, and I end up walking out with a great song. This album is a representation of my past three or four years and all the raw and honest emotions that I’ve never talked about before”.

Rosé added that the upcoming album contains her “heart-breaking” stories and vulnerable emotions. “I think that’s the beauty of it. That’s what I like most about creating, that you can take something not so great [and turn it] into something beautiful,” she said.

Later, Rosé also spoke about how one of BLACKPINK’s biggest strengths is their work ethic. “Each one of us, we want such big things for ourselves and we work so hard everyday,” she said. “I’ve never seen someone be like, ‘I just want to rest’. Even if we’ve said that before, I don’t think anyone means that.”

Rosé’s debut solo album ‘rosie’ is due out on December 6. Ahead of its release, she dropped the single ‘APT.’ with fellow Atlantic Records artist Bruno Mars last month. The track has since earned the singer her highest Billboard 100 entry yet.
