Netflix announced Boyfriend on Demand today (February 20), revealing that BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Doom At Your Service star Seo In-guk have been tapped to star in the K-drama. The series is said to blend the challenges of daily work life and never-before-seen virtual reality dating subscription programmes.

Boyfriend on Demand will follow Seo Mi-rae, a jaded webtoon producer who escapes reality via virtual reality dating programmes, where she finds the boyfriends of her dreams. Mi-rae is described as a woman accustomed to a non-existent romantic life due to her hectic work schedule.

She receives her second chance when she comes across a “Monthly Boyfriend” device that allows her to enter the VR programme where she encounters unrealistically perfect boyfriends. Jisoo, who previously starred in Snowdrop and Newtopia, will star as Mi-rae.

Seo In-guk will play Park Kyeong-nam, a colleague and rival producer of Mi-rae’s. His character is described as indifferent and cold, but withholds surprising secrets that will stir Mi-rae’s emotions.

Netflix also revealed that Work Later, Drink Now director Kim Jung-sik will helm the new series. The streamer has yet to unveil a release window for the new series nor announce additional supporting cast.

In other K-drama news, Netflix also recently announced an upcoming K-drama tentatively titled Show Business, set against the backdrop of the gritty 1960s and 1980s Korean entertainment industry.

The show will be led by The Glory’s Song Hye-kyo and Squid Game’s Gong Yoo. Show Business is also written by Our Blues screenwriter Noh Hee-gyoung and helmed by Lee Yoon-jung of Coffee Prince fame.
