Billy Joel’s UK headline shows this summer postponed until 2026 due to “medical condition”

Billy Joel has postponed his UK shows until next year due to health reasons.

The iconic singer, songwriter and pianist initially shared details of his gigs back in September – confirming that he would be headed over to the UK for two huge headline shows. These included a stop at Edinburgh’s Scottish Gas Murrayfield on June 7, followed by a show at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium on June 21.

For the former, it would mark his first time playing in the Scottish city for 46 years. For the latter, it was set to be his first time playing in Liverpool in 45 years.

However, he has now shared a new update, postponing both gigs until next year due to a “medical condition”.

In a statement from his team, the decision to push back the gigs comes as he is currently recovering from surgery and set to undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors. Although details about the medical procedure have not been disclosed, the spokesperson has said that the artist is expected to make a full recovery.

He also shared his own statement, telling fans: “While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first. I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”

The show in Edinburgh will now take place on June 6 2026, and the Liverpool date will be on June 20 2026. All purchased tickets will automatically be valid for the rescheduled shows. For those unable to attend, refunds will be available from the point of purchase.

Other affected dates include gigs in Detroit, Toronto, Salt Lake City, Milwaukee and more.

Billy Joel’s rescheduled UK dates are:

JUNE 2026
6 – Edinburgh, Scottish Gas Murrayfield
20 – Liverpool, Anfield Stadium

Billy Joel is set to hit the stage again in July, with his previously announced shows in North America from then taking place as scheduled. These commence with a night at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5. These US dates will see him have support from Sting and Stevie Nicks.

In other news about the musician, last year Joel opened up about why it took him nearly two decades to release his latest single, ‘Turn The Lights Back On’.

Then, in July of that year, he played his historic 150th, and final, show as part of his Madison Square Garden residency, bringing out Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose to perform a number of songs.

He had been playing one show at the iconic venue every month since January 2014.
