“I continue to pray for healing and rebuilding for the families suffering from trauma and loss,” the singer wrote on Instagram
Fans anticipating Beyoncé‘s big announcement today will have to wait. The singer said she has pressed pause on the enigmatic announcement because of the ongoing fires in Southern California.
“The January 14th announcement will be postponed until a later date due to the devastation caused by the ongoing wildfires around areas of Los Angeles,” Beyoncé wrote on Instagram last night, the day before the announcement was planned. “I continue to pray for healing and rebuilding for the families suffering from trauma and loss. We are so blessed to have brave first responders who continue to work tirelessly to protect the Los Angeles community.”
She also encouraged fans to “join our efforts in supporting those impacted,” sharing the handle for her charity foundation BeyGOOD. In the caption she noted, “The BeyGOOD LA Fire Relief Fund has donated $2.5 million to directly support families who lost their homes and community organizations at the forefront of relief. Please join us in supporting with whatever you can.”
Beyoncé previously teased the announcement on Instagram with a short video posted after her Christmas Day halftime performance during the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans game on Netflix. The clip highlighted the date Jan. 14, although the singer remained mysterious about what exactly she was going to reveal.
Yesterday, Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD donated $2.5 million to the newly-established LA Fire Relief Fund to help victims of the Los Angeles fires. “The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires,” the foundation shared on Instagram.
