Beyoncé Donates $2.5 Million to Los Angeles Fire Relief

The singer announced the contribution from her BeyGOOD charity foundation

Beyoncé is contributing to fire relief efforts in Southern California. The singer’s BeyGOOD charity foundation announced last night that it was donated $2.5 million to the newly-established LA Fire Relief Fund.

“The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires,” the foundation shared on Instagram.

Beyoncé founded BeyGOOD in 2013 to “provide resources worldwide.” The foundation assists people with economic disparities, supports non-profits in marginalized communities, and provides relief resources and educational scholarships, among other work.

Multiple organizations and corporations have donated money to help with relief efforts amid the ongoing destructive fires in Southern California, which are yet to be fully contained. So far 24 people have died, according to the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner. Eight of the deaths were attributed to the Palisades Fire, while 16 resulted from the Eaton Fire. More than 12,000 structures have been damaged or destroyed with the fires engulfing more than 40,000 acres as of Sunday, according to CalFire.

Beyoncé is apparently preparing to make an announcement of her own this week. The singer recently teased Jan. 14 in an Instagram video, although it’s unclear exactly what she’s planning to announce (or if she’ll decide to postpone it due to the fires).
