Beyoncé Buys SirDavis Whisky Brand Controlling Stake: Reports

Beyoncé has acquired a controlling stake in her premium rye whiskey brand SirDavis from her partner in the venture, LVMH’s Moët Hennessy, the luxury giant confirmed to multiple press outlets on Monday (Aug. 10) following weeks of industry reports.

Launched in September 2024 in partnership with Moët Hennessy, the American-made SirDavis Whisky was inspired by the legacy of Beyoncé’s paternal great-grandfather, who was a successful Prohibition-era moonshine maker.

Billboard was not able to independently verify the reports of the acquisition. Representatives for LVMH and Parkwood Entertainment did not respond to requests for comment.

Fans and social media followers of Beyoncé know she frequently posts about tasting and collecting rare Japanese whiskeys. SirDavis incorporates grains often used in Japanese whiskey, as well as Scotch. (SirDavis whisky dropped the e from whiskey, similar to the Scottish spelling.)

American whiskey companies, including Jim Beam, have struggled with oversupply as consumer tastes and alcohol habits of younger Americans evolve. But whiskey brand deals continue to lure celebrities.

In 2018, Bob Dylan launched the whiskey brand Heaven’s Door in 2018 in partnership with Marc Bushala, co-founder of Angel’s Envy bourbon. Also in 2018, Drake announced plans for an initial public offering for his Virginia Black whiskey, co-created with Brent Hocking, who sold DeLeón tequila to Diageo and Diddy (the IPO was eventually abandoned). In 2022, A$AP Rocky launched Mercer + Prince, a Canadian whiskey developed in partnership with Global Brand Equities and E. & J. Gallo (the whiskey was named for the artist’s favorite cross streets in his native New York City).

LVMH does run in the family for Beyoncé; her husband Jay-Z has his own alcohol brand partnership with the company’s Armand de Brignac. Widely known as Ace of Spades, the luxury French Champagne brand is produced by the Cattier Family and co-owned by LVMH and Jay-Z.
