Barbra Streisand praises “wonderful” Gracie Abrams after watching her for the first time on ‘SNL’

Barbra Streisand has sung Gracie Abrams‘ praises after watching her Saturday Night Live debut this past weekend (December 14).

This past Saturday, Abrams made her SNL debut as a musical guest. Among the many viewers that tuned in to the long-running sketch comedy show was the legendary Barbra Streisand, who soon after took to social media to share here thoughts on the young Abrams.

Streisand wrote on Instagram, along with an image of Gracie’s performance: “I just saw a wonderful new singer named GRACIE ABRAMS (@gracieabrams) on Saturday night live this weekend”.

She also made a note of Abrams’ lineage, shouting out director JJ Abrams: “It turns out she’s the daughter of my friend JJ Abrams!”

For the SNL gig, Gracie Abrams performing ‘That’s So True’ and ‘I Love You, I’m Sorry’. ‘I Love You, I’m Sorry’ is taken off Abrams’ latest album, ‘The Secret Of Us’, while ‘That’s So True’ was released as part of the record’s deluxe edition that dropped in October.

Abrams’ ‘The Secret Of Us’ scored a four-star review from NME upon its release in June: “It’s a moment of pure pop catharsis that leans into the good, bad and messy of infatuation. This is the joy of ‘The Secret of Us’: it doesn’t shy away from the complex or contradictory. Here Gracie Abrams embraces her growing pains and celebrates enduring the difficult moments. She’s never sounded better.”

Earlier this month, Abrams performed with Taylor Swift during her final leg of the latter’s blockbuster ‘Eras Tour’, with the two delivering a mash-up of ‘I Love You, I’m Sorry’ and Swift’s ‘Last Kiss’, taken from her 2010 album ‘Speak Now’.

They had previously teamed up on ‘Us’, taken from Abrams’ latest album. In November, the song was nominated at the Grammys for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, where it will be up against the likes of Beyoncé & Post Malone’s ‘Levi’s Jeans’ and Charli XCX & Billie Eilish’s ‘Guess’.

Elsewhere, Abrams recently announced her 2025 ‘The Secret Of Us’ Asia tour, which will see her embark on dates across Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan and Thailand. Her Asia tour will take place after performing in UK and Europe, set to commence in March 2025. Last month, Abrams revealed that a “very vulgar” version of ‘That’s So True’ exists, though it will “never see the light of day”. The only people who have heard the alternate version of the song are Mumford & Sons, and even that was by accident.
