A band was left feeling red-faced after a fan proposed on-stage at one of their shows, and got shot down.
The band in question is an Aussie duo who go by the name Bootleg Rascal, and are currently out on the road in Australia performing their blend of dubstep and hip-hop for fans around the country.
They kicked off their first live shows of the new year in Brisbane recently, and unfortunately hit a bit of an awkward moment during the set, when a fan got up on-stage and used the moment to propose to his girlfriend.
Sharing footage from the crowd on their social media pages, the man got up on stage and invited his partner to join him. “We saw Bootleg Rascal about two years ago, and thought they’re your favourite band,” he said, as she joined him in front of the crowd.
“So I thought today, why not?” he added, getting onto one knee and popping the question. The moment didn’t go down quite as expected, however, as she was seen pulling back from him and shaking her head, before leaving the stage with him still down on one knee.
“Ah shit that sucks…” the band members was heard saying in the background, and someone dressed in a Scooby Doo outfit quickly rushed onto the stage to help the man get back on his feet.
From there, the video cuts to a message of the band promoting a “breakup song” of theirs called ‘Reasons’.
“First show off to a great start. Not sure we’ll be helping out with another public proposal for a while…” Bootleg Rascal then added in the caption, before continuing: “In any case, tour continues this week – dates below.”
In the comment section, fans were quick to share their thoughts on the moment, with many cringing after seeing the video. “Amazing way to advertise the tour,” one wrote, while someone else quoted Scooby Doo and simply wrote “Ruh-roh”.
“I don’t think I have ever felt that awkward on stage in my life,” added band member Carlos Lara, and another fan wrote: “Damn. Bro didn’t even plan a speech other than ‘we saw this same band two years ago so it’s probably the thing to do ae’. Romantic stuff.”
While the on-stage proposal at Bootleg Rascal’s show didn’t quite go to plan, there have been some pretty big public proposals at gigs in the past 12 months that had happier outcomes.
Back in May, Disturbed frontman David Draiman used one of the band’s shows in Sacramento to ask for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage, and later in the summer Cradle Of Filth frontman Dani Filth proposed to his long-term girlfriend Sofiya Belousova during the band’s performance at Download Festival.
