Bad Bunny Spends the Summer on the Shore With Chuwi in ‘Weltita’ Video

Work and play are one and the same for Bad Bunny in the music video for “Weltita,” his sunny collaboration with Chuwi. In the visual directed by Siempreric and Robinson Florian, the artists spend a day on the beach playing games that get competitive while remaining carefree.

They face off in musical chairs (Bad Bunny claims the final seat as his throne) and dodge shots during a water gun fight. They also get around to building sandcastles, just as Chuwi’s Lorén Aldarondo Torres sings on the record. They don’t leave the structures standing for long before they smash them to bits, just like they did with a no trespassing sign planted on the beach by transplants.

“It’s a good song, another Bad Bunny hit, and we tell him, ‘By chance, do you think we can put some of our production on it as well?’” Chuwi’s Wester Aldarondo told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “And he’s like ‘Welllllll, I like how it sounds now, but … y’know what, sure.’”

They sent “Weltita” back to him after working on it for three days. “We sent it back, scared they were gonna hate it, and once again didn’t hear anything for a few days,” Wester added. “And then suddenly, out of the blue: ‘Hey, you guys gotta go to the studio to finish the song.’ We’re like ‘Oh fuck, he liked it! We’re in!’”

“Weltita” appears on Bad Bunny’s blockbuster album Debí Tirar Más Fotos. “It’s funny because it’s an album dedicated completely to Puerto Rico, but it starts in New York,” he told Rolling Stone. “That was kind of how the album started: Before, when a Puerto Rican would go to the U.S., they’d be like, ‘Me voy pa’ Nueva York!’ So New York would be like shorthand for ‘I went outside of the island’ back in the day. And at the same time, amazing things happened in New York when Latinos, Puerto Ricans were here — we teamed up with Cubans, with Dominicans, there was music, there was art.”
