Argentine singer Fede Dorcaz shot dead before Mexican ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ appearance

The Argentine singer Fede Dorcaz has been shot dead just days before a scheduled appearance on the Mexican version of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 29-year-old was killed on Thursday night (October 9) in Mexico City, with the local Secretary of Public Safety confirming that he died instantly after being shot in the neck as he tried to exit a ring road (via Metro).

Authorities have said CCTV camera footage is now being analysed to identify the likely perpetrators, with police hunting four men who fled the scene on motorcycles.

Dorcaz had been due to appear in the new season of Las Estrellas Bailan En Hoy, which is the Mexican equivalent of the TV dancing competition Strictly Come Dancing, with the show set to start next week.

TMZ have noted that Dorcaz had been driving home from dance rehearsals when the incident happened.

Writing on Instagram, the show said: “The HOY family mourns the sad passing of our friend and colleague, Fede Dorcaz. We share in the grief felt by his entire family, his parents and his girlfriend, Mariana Avila.”

“Mariana and Fede were one of the couples scheduled to appear in the new season of Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy. Fede leaves a huge void in our team. His memory and his passion will continue to inspire us forever. Rest in peace, Fede Dorcaz.”

Dorcaz was born and raised in Argentina, before his family moved to Spain when he was 13. After a successful modelling career, he branched into recording Latin pop music, scoring hits in multiple countries with songs like ‘Cara Bonita’ and ‘Volver A Empezar’.

He had been living in Mexico for the last three years and performed a series of sold out shows around the country in 2024.
