All signs point to love for Mayday Parade on their latest single, “Towards You.” The warm ballad will appear on Sweet, the first set of songs in a three-part album release scheduled for April 18.
“‘Towards You’ is really just a simple love song,” frontman Derek Sanders shared in a statement. “Sometimes all you need is an acoustic guitar, some singing, and some strings to tell someone how much you love them.” On the record, he sings: “I’m still singing ’cause you make me feel less small/You are the wave beneath it all/You lift me when I fall down/As I go, carry hope it won’t be long/We’ll make an ocean of this song/And I’ll sail where the wind blows now.”
Mayday Parade previously previewed Sweet with “By the Way” and “Pretty Good to Feel Something.” The first installment of the album project will arrive ahead of an expansive 20th-anniversary tour scheduled to begin on April 22 and extend through October 19.
“This tour is the culmination of the band’s career for the past 20 years, and as such, we really wanted to go all out and provide our fans with a memorable and very special experience,” guitarist Alex Garcia shared when the run of shows was announced. “We will be celebrating our deep music catalog starting at this band’s inception and continuing with our new releases this year.”
He added: “We are all very proud of what we’ve done, and when I say we, I mean the five of us, our crew – touring, production, and administrative – and, most importantly, you, the fans. Everyone always says that without you, we couldn’t do this, and I know that sounds like a cliche at this point, but that sentiment is repeated because of its literal and figurative truth. While we may “make” the music you enjoy, your energy and support fuel this dream. We look forward to seeing you at these shows and celebrating the past 20 years with us.”
