Al B. Sure! to Write About Sean Combs Ties, Kim Porter’s Death in New Memoir

Al B. Sure!, the R&B artist whose son with late model Kim Porter was adopted by Sean “Diddy” Combs, is prepping a new memoir, Do You Believe Me Now? The book is set to be published Sept. 9 via Simon & Schuster.

According to a press release, the book will find Sure! — real name Albert Joseph Brown III — digging into his life and career, as well as the medical crisis that left him in a coma in 2023. Sure! is also reportedly set to discuss his “shocking” ties to Combs, which go back to his days as an artist for Uptown Records, where Combs got his start in the music industry as an intern.

Sure! also famously dated Porter before she began her relationship with Combs; Sure! and Porter had one child together, Quincy Brown, whom Combs later adopted. In Do You Believe Me Now?, Sure! will reportedly write about his relationship with Porter and her death from lobar pneumonia in November 2018.

Sure! broke through with his 1988 debut, In Effect Mode, which featured a pair of hit singles, “Nite and Day” and “Off on Your Own (Girl),” that topped the R&B Songs chart. Over the course of his career, he’s worked with an array of major artists including Quincy Jones, Usher, Diana Ross, Jodeci, and David Bowie.

Earlier this year, Sure! featured in the Peacock documentary, Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy. After the film aired, Combs filed a $100 million defamation suit, claiming it promoted conspiracy theories and pushed an “unhinged narrative that Mr. Combs is a serial killer.”

The lawsuit specifically claimed Combs was defamed by comments from Sure! and attorney Ariel Mitchell, who suggested foul play in the death of Porter and others close to Combs. Combs’ lawyers said the documentary pushed these claims “with absolutely no evidence or logic to stand on and in the face of clear evidence to the contrary.”

Reps for Combs did not immediately return a request for comment regarding the news about Sure!’s upcoming memoir.
