ABBA Voyage to revamp setlist for third anniversary

The setlist for ABBA‘s virtual Voyage concert residency is receiving a “small” revamp this May for its third anniversary in London – find out more below.

Today (March 27), the band and the ABBA Voyage team have announced new changes being made to the acclaimed virtual concert experience to celebrate its third consecutive year.

The band said per a press release: “When we first opened we never imagined that we’d still be in London 3 years on. We’re very grateful that so many of you have joined us. Of course, the reason for us being able to sustain our concert for so long is because of our incredible audience. As we say in Sweden… Vilken resa!”

As a result, the band will be implementing “a little something to our concert” beginning on May 27, three years to the exact date that ABBA Voyage first launched.

While details surrounding the exact changes being made remain under wraps, ABBA’s team have confirmed via the press release that “some additions and small changes will be made to the ABBA Voyage setlist”.

This isn’t the first time a change to the setlist has been discussed. Speaking to NME in April 2023, Björn Ulvaeus revealed that they did work on more songs that could work their way into future iterations of the show. “We did motion capture more songs that we have in this concert,” he said. “There are songs in the pipeline which might be animated and ‘ABBA-tarred’ in the future. Who knows? There might be a new song every now and then somewhere – but I can’t give you any details as of right now.”

ABBA Voyage first kicked off in May 2022, and was due to wrap in November last year, but has since been extended to January 2026 due to overwhelming demand – you can get tickets here.

Once the show wraps in London, the band intend on bringing the Voyage experience around the world, including Asia, Australia and North America though concrete plans have yet to be made public.

Reviewing the first night of the show on May 27, 2022, NME gave it five stars and called it “an epic avatar mega-mix from a brave new world,” and said, “Ageing rockers and poppers are bound to imitate the idea, but it’ll be a struggle to come close to the experience of ABBA Voyage. We for one welcome our new ABBAtar overlords, if only for giving these songs back to us in a totally new and joyful way.”

As for the future of ABBA themselves, the band remain confident that ‘Voyage’ was their last release, and in June last year, Ulvaeus shared that they may never make another public appearance together after they were honoured with the Royal Vasa Order, a Swedish knighthood.

Speaking on the honour, Ulvaeus revealed that he and his bandmates had quietly realised it might have been “the last occasion” that all four members would be out and about together. “We stood there quietly, accepting it out of the king’s hand and him saying a few words, it was a very quiet and very elegant ceremony. All four of us of course we there.”

When asked if the band meet each other often, Ulvaeus said: “In public very rarely, and Frida (Lyngstad) said to me afterwards, ‘This might be the last occasion.’ Very sad, and I thought about that afterwards, but we’re not getting any younger.”
