A$AP Rocky Drops Two New Songs From ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ Soundtrack

A$AP Rocky has released “Trunks” and “Both Eyes Closed,” two new songs from the Highest 2 Lowest soundtrack. Both tracks appear in the Spike Lee-directed, Denzel Washington-starring film, with “Trunks” being an integral plot point (no spoilers!). It’s unclear if the tracks were crafted from the perspective of rapper Yung Felon, the character Rocky plays in Highest 2 Lowest, but both songs feel very much in A$AP Rocky’s wheelhouse.

On the uptempo “Trunks,” which subsists on frenetic 808s and a warped synth loop, he raps, “At thirty-five and I’m still a purty guy / Pussy never dry, you know shawty certified.”

“Both Eyes Closed” is a more pensive song, where he rhymes about societal ills, rapping, “ Any time I get a chance to hit—, man, I’m sick / Seen some shit that made me cry, baby die from genocide / Middle finger to the man, fuck the Klan, I know you hate my kind / God, tell me why my kind gotta suffer, bro, why?”
