A ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ sequel is in the works

A Kpop Demon Hunters sequel is reportedly in the works – find out more below.

Per a Deadline report, Netflix is in early talks about a sequel to its hit original animated film Kpop Demon Hunters. Released in June on the streaming service, the animated film follows K-pop girl group named Huntr/x.

Huntr/x are made up of members Rumi, Mira and Zoey, who lead double lives as demon hunters who fight rival boy band The Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons. Earlier this week, it was announced that Kpop Demon Hunters has already become the most streamed movie in Netflix history, surpassing previous record holder, 2021’s Red Notice, with over 236million views.

Deadline has not been able to provide details surrounding the discussed KPop Demon Hunters sequel, while Netflix has denied to comment. However, a sequel wouldn’t be out of the question, as the film’s success has surpassed its streaming on Netflix.

Last weekend (August 23 and 24), a sing-along version of the movie was released in cinemas, with the majority of screenings selling out and the film making an estimated $18-$20million across two days according to Variety.

The movie’s popularity has also brought about chart success. Fictional band Huntr/x’s song ‘Golden’ reached number one in the UK, while The Saja Boys’ track ‘Your Idol’ reaching number two in the US, surpassing BTS’ record to become the highest charting KPop song in the country.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Netflix is already working on a live-action version of KPop Demon Hunters, as well as a stage musical. The streamer is said to believe that they may have found their own version of the Frozen franchise, which spawned numerous spin-offs for Disney. However, nothing has been officially announced as yet.

Recently, Ahn Hyo-Seop, who voiced the antagonist Jinu in the film, spoke about coming back for a potential sequel. “As someone who loves Jinu as a fan, too, of course I would love to see him come back,” he told USA Today. “But it’s not up to me”.
