According to reports from Variety, Live Nation Productions is working on a roadtrip comedy titled New Years Rev, with all three members of Green Day producing. The film is currently in production in Oklahoma.

New Years Rev – which was inspired by Green Day’s early days living and touring in a van – will tell the story of three friends as they travel across the United States after mistakenly thinking they’ll be opening for a Green Day New Years concert in Los Angeles.

Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust star as the young group of friends who embark on a life-changing journey. New Years Rev is being directed by Lee Kirk and also stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey of The Office game, alongside Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Mark Ruffalo’s son Keen Ruffalo.

Besides Green Day, the film is also being produced by Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Productions. New Years Rev has yet to receive a release date.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said of the film in a statement to Variety: “Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known.”

Live Nation Productions’ Ryan Kroft added: “With incredible guidance from Green Day, New Years Rev tells the story of young artists chasing a dream — long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of the stage fuelling their journey. Brought to life by an incredible cast, it’s a tribute to the magic of live music.”

The band are currently rumoured to headline Glastonbury 2025, and are still free to perform at this year’s festival on either Friday June 27, Saturday June 28 or Sunday June 29. They’re due to perform in Europe this summer before and after Glasto, further fuelling rumours that they will headline this year’s Worthy Farm festival.

In January last year, the band released their 14th album, ‘Saviors’. The record scored a four-star review from NME, with Andrew Trendell hailing it as their “best since ‘American Idiot’”: “‘Saviors’ is an act of defiance met with a shrug; a band saying, “We’re still here and we’re still fucked”.
