A film adaptation of Britney Spears memoir ‘The Woman In Me’ is in the works

Britney Spears‘ memoir The Woman In Me is set to be adapted into a film.

Universal Pictures has landed the rights to the book in a competitive auction less than a year after it hit shelves, with Wicked director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt attached to the project (as per Variety).

Spears later confirmed the news on her social media. “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt,” she wrote. “He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned.”

The Woman In Me was a huge success upon release and has sold over 2.5million copies in the US alone, shifting a million copies worldwide in its first week. Meanwhile, the audiobook —  narrated by Hollywood star Michelle Williams, with an introduction by Spears — is the fastest-selling in publisher Simon & Schuster’s history.

The book contained a number of notable revelations in its candid discussion of her career, relationships, 13-year conservatorship and personal experiences. One of the most significant was that she had an abortion while dating Justin Timberlake between 1998 to 2002 because he thought they “weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives” and were “way too young”.

Elsewhere in the book, Spears opened up about how she could “barely speak for months” following her break-up with Timberlake.

She added that the media saw her as a “harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy” when in reality she was “comatose in Louisiana” trying to mend her broken heart while Timberlake was “happily running around Hollywood”.

Spears previously teased that a second volume of the memoir could be on the horizon.

In other news, Spears has launched a collaboration with skateboard brand Welcome.

Fans can buy custom decks and merch featuring iconic images from Spears’ career, including the cover of her debut album ‘Baby One More Time’, and photos from her famed 2001 MTV VMAs performance.

There are also hoodies, t-shirts, hats and water bottles inscribed with lyrics from her biggest hits, like “I Still Believe“, and “Not That Innocent“.

Elsewhere, Ozzy Osbourne and his family issued an apology to Spears this week, after having recently made disparaging comments about her dancing in videos.

Halsey has also responded to Spears’ claims she felt “harassed, violated and bullied” by her new video Gia Coppola-directed video ‘Lucky’, which interpolates the classic 2000 Spears hit with her blessing.
