The single is among five new songs from the newly announced deluxe reissue of ‘Saviors‘, their Number One album that was released in 2024. The other new tracks include ‘Fuck Off’, ‘Ballyhoo’, ‘Underdog’, ‘Stay Young,” and acoustic renditions of ‘Suzie Chapstick’ and ‘Father to a Son’.

In a four star review of ‘Saviors, NME said: “There’s also some serendipity in the band hitting the road to celebrate 30 years of ‘Dookie’ and 20 years of ‘American Idiot’ later this summer. Not only does ‘Saviors’ spiritually bridge the gap between the two, but it uses the palette of the best of the band to tell us something else.”

‘Saviors (édition de luxe)’ will be released on May 23 and you can pre-order it here.

The first new track from the album, ‘Smash It Like Belushi’ is a throwback to the band’s ‘Dookie’ era and explores themes of mental health and isolation. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sings about “screaming into silence”, living in a ghost town” and “living in a breakdown”.

You can listen to the song here:

The ‘Saviors (édition de luxe)’ tracklist is:

‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’
Look Ma, No Brains!’
‘Bobby Sox’
‘One Eyed Bastard’
‘Dilemma’
‘1981’
‘Goodnight Adeline’
‘Coma City’
‘Corvette Summer’
‘Suzie Chapstick’
‘Strange Days Are Here to Stay’
‘Living In The’20s’
‘Father To A Son’
‘Saviors’
‘Fancy Sauce’
‘Smash It Like Belushi’
‘Stay Young’
‘Fuck Off’
‘Ballyhoo’
‘Suzie Chapstick’ (Acoustic)
‘Father To A Son’ (Acoustic)
‘Underdog’

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Armstrong shared that Perry Farrell dismissed the group as a “boy band” and didn’t want them on the bill at Lollapalooza in 1994.

The row, which has been documented in a new book Lollapalooza: The Uncensored Story of Alternative Rock’s Wildest Festival, erupted when the Jane’s Addiction frontman approached John Rubeli, who was a stage manager for Lollapalooza at the time.

“I can’t think of a single time that Perry pushed back or vetoed a band – except for Green Day. … He was like, ‘They’re a boy band. I don’t want to book a boy band,’” Rubeli said in the book via Consequence.

Armstrong recalled: “Perry was a fucking asshole, straight up. He wasn’t a part of that conversation, because he’d checked out, but they asked us to play it and we said ‘yes’. And it was going to be the Boredoms on the first half, and us on the second half as the opening band. And then all of a sudden, he comes back in and he’s like, ‘I don’t want them on the bill.’ Apparently, he thought that we were a band that was put together by [record executive] Mo Ostin at Warner Bros.”

He continued: “For us it was really disappointing, because Perry was someone that we really respected. I think that made us want to play [Lollapalooza] even more, actually, because we wanted to prove that he had his head very far up his own ass.

“He had minions that would come up and say, ‘Perry Farrell’s really angry that you dedicated ‘Chump’ to him. And I’m like, ‘Tell him to stop acting like one.’”

Green Day meanwhile are set to headline Coachella 2025 this weekend and next alongside Lady Gaga, Post Malone and Travis Scott.

Meanwhile, later this year the band are set to headline Download 2025 alongside Sleep Token and KoRn.

The music bash will return to its home of Donington Park, Leicestershire, for its 22nd year and take place from June 13-15. Any remaining tickets for the festival can be found here.
