Little Simz delays new album release “due to scheduling of shooting a movie”

Little Simz has delayed the release of her upcoming album ‘Lotus’, citing “scheduling of shooting a movie” as the reason.

Originally due to be released on May 9, the album’s release date has now been pushed back to June 6 and will be out via AWAL Recordings. Simz shared the news of the ‘Lotus’ delay on Instagram, saying that it has to be done “due to a scheduling of shooting a movie that just came in.”

She added: “Not ideal for me or you I know, trust me I’ve tried many ways around it but just means I can’t do the film otherwise. If there was ever a time I ask for your grace and patience it is now.”

As an actor, Simz has appeared in Netflix’s revival of Top Boy as Shelley, Meleka in the E4 television series Youngers. Her first role was as Vicky in the BBC children’s series Spirit Warriors.

She has also appeared as herself in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe film Venom: Let There Be Carnage, where she sang her track ‘Venom’.

‘Lotus’ follows Simz’s previous album, 2022’s ‘NO THANK YOU’. In a four-star review of the LP, NME shared: “‘NO THANK YOU’s quiet, understated release provides parallels to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Untitled Unmastered’ release from 2016, a series of leftovers from his ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ sessions.

“That too had a certain looseness and freedom to the tracks, and, much like Lamar, a clear-headed Simz has something to say urgently. The case for Simz to be recognised as a true modern great has only been strengthened with this release.”

In other Little Simz-related news, the Mercury Prize and BRIT award-winning rapper is set to play a one-off orchestral show at London’s Meltdown 2025. The rapper was previously revealed to be curating a boundary-breaking line-up for this year’s edition of the 11-day festival, and will be taking to the stage herself as one of the performers.

Scheduled between Thursday June 12 and Sunday June 22, the event will include a number of live performances from artists hand-selected by Simz, as well as two weekends of free participatory programming featuring grassroots collectives and local organisations.
