‘SNL’ Writer Tweaks Morgan Wallen’s Hasty Exit After Show With Donut Meme

Morgan Wallen‘s hasty retreat from the stage at Saturday Night Live over the weekend during the traditional credits roll lovefest raised a lot of eyebrows. After performing two songs as the musical guest on the episode hosted by Oscar-winning Anora star Mikey Madison, Wallen whispered something into the actress’ ear and then abruptly walked off the stage, past the camera, and out of Studio 8H without participating in the traditional hugs and chit-chat.

A short time later, Wallen posted an image on his Instagram Stories of his private plane with the caption “Get me to God’s country” written over the image.

Amid some backlash and questions about why Wallen was in such a hurry, SNL writer Josh Patten had a bit of fun with the incident in his own Story on Sunday, posting an image of a Krispy Kreme donut truck with its roll-up door open and a ramp leading to the street with the same caption as Wallen’s post. A few slides later, Patten appeared to respond to a comment asking, “guessing Patten’s not a Morgan Wallen fan?” with an eye rolling emoji.

As further proof, Patten posted another slide showing his Apple Music replay list for 2023 featuring five Wallen songs amid tracks from Zach Bryan and Sam Hunt.

Wallen performed the title track from his upcoming album, I’m the Problem, as well as “Just in Case” on SNL, but it was his quick exit that garnered the most headlines. At press time it appeared Wallen had not made any other comment about his early leave-taking singer, but his Irish goodbye was in keeping with his somewhat checkered history with the show.

The country star was originally scheduled to appear on SNL in October 2020, but he was replaced at the last minute for breaking SNL‘s then-strict COVID-19 safety protocols. During his rescheduled debut appearance that December, Wallen appeared in a sketch poking fun at the controversy surrounding his aborted first booking after he was photographed partying and not wearing a mask in Alabama.
