Gene Simmons explains thought process behind selling fans a chance to be his “personal assistant and roadie for a day” for $12,500

KISS’ Gene Simmons has explained why he’s charging fans a hefty sum to be his “personal assistant and band roadie for a day” – see what he had to say below.

Earlier this month, the bassist made headlines when he launched a handful of Experiences for fans to purchase ahead of his now-postponed North American tour, with one dubbed ‘The Ultimate Gene Simmons Experience’ –  which gives a fan the opportunity to help with load-in at the venue, stage set-up, and the ability to sit in on the sound check and hang out backstage.

For a steep $12,495 (£9,667) in addition to the original ticket price, Simmons would also join the fan turned-roadie for a meal and introduce them during the show. The fan – who is allowed to bring a friend along – will also receive an autographed bass guitar from Simmons himself.

Last week, it was announced that his North American tour – set to kick off in April – was being postponed to “early 2026”. While a cause for the postponement was not revealed, it was confirmed that it was not due to health issues.

Earlier this week (March 25), Simmons spoke to The New York Post, where he explained his thought process behind the exorbitantly priced roadie package: “When I was a kid and went to see shows, I was always curious, ‘What’s it like when they’re in a hotel? What’s it like when the stage is set up? What’s it like being onstage when they’re performing and seeing the audience from the stage?’”

He continued: “I decided, ‘You know what, nobody’s ever done it. Why not open the idea to be my personal roadie for the day?’ You meet at the hotel where you have breakfast together or, you know, whatever floats your boat.”

The experience continues all through showtime, and includes a special performance with Gene Simmons: “You ride with me to the gig. You can set up amplifiers and drums to your heart’s content. You’re onstage, right offstage to my right. You can video the crowds, whatever. And I pull you onstage to sing a song with me.”

Since the postponement of his solo tour, KISS have announced plans for an “unmasked” show in Las Vegas later this year. It will mark the band’s first performance since their 2023 farewell tour.

According to an email sent out to fans, the concert also promises “a special live performance from former KISS member Bruce Kulick, along with other special guests, activities, exclusive experiences and more.”
