Watch Fatboy Slim DJ at fish and chip shop in Melbourne: “Lots of fun and laughs”

Fatboy Slim played a DJ set at a fish and chip shop in Melbourne. Check out footage below.

The DJ – real name Norman Cook – is currently on tour in Australia, where he made the unexpected detour to Northern Soul – a fish and chip shop located in St. Kilda, Melbourne.

He began the impromptu set last night (March 19) with only an hour’s notice, though the takeaway quickly filled with fans and news reporters.

One journalist from Australia’s Channel 9 attempted to get an interview with the DJ, who said: “I can’t talk right now, I’m working,” in response to a microphone being put in front of his face.

In a pre-set interview, Slim said it was “fantastic” to play the unexpected gig. “At my age, and at my stage of my career, there’s very few things left on my bucket list,” he told Channel 10 news.“Playing in a chip shop was one of them. I’ve played in a butcher’s, I’ve played in an igloo… I’ve played some stupid places! But I’ve never played in a chip shop, and I’m very pleased and proud. It’s just a fun thing to do, isn’t it?”

In other news, Slim recently released his new book It Ain’t Over ’til the Fatboy Sings.

The highly illustrated coffee table book gives fans a glimpse into the DJ’s 40 years in showbiz, highlighting what it is like to work in music. It features live photos, tour posters, and untold stories of obscure memorabilia he’s collected throughout the years. You can get your copy here.

In other news, late last year, Fatboy Slim revealed that he’d lost his “passion for making music” and prefers DJing instead.

“For five years, I tried to beat myself up about it and go, ‘You should be doing this’. But then I thought, ‘Well, everybody likes my DJing and I enjoy that more, so I’ll do that’,” he said. “I’m hoping that one day the passion will come back.” Cook is already scheduled to headline Kendal Calling and Latitude Festival in 2025.

He also previously spoke out against what he called “sick” dynamic ticket pricing for Oasis’ 2025 reunion tour.
