The duo also performed their Boygenius-produced single “Skin on Skin”
Julien Baker teamed up with Jasmine.4.t for a rendition of System of a Down‘s 2001 single “Toxicity” at SXSW. Baker joined the British musician and her band for a raucous take on the hard rock track during Jasmine.4.t’s set at the Austin festival.
Before launching into the cover, the musician performed her single “Skin on Skin,” which features Baker and was produced by Boygenius. Jasmine.4.t notably teamed up with Phoebe Bridgers‘ record label, Saddest Factory Records, to release the song last year.
The Manchester, England-based singer-songwriter is, in fact, the first U.K. signing to Saddest Factory. Her recent Boygenius-produced LP, You Are the Morning, features frank and beautiful songs about life as a trans woman.
Jasmine.4.t spoke with Rolling Stone about collaborating with Baker backstage at the Future of Music event last week, saying she has been “such a huge fan” of Baker’s guitar playing for years.
Baker is preparing to release a country LP, Send a Prayer My Way, with Torres on April 18. The LP spans 12 songs, including previously-released singles “Sugar in the Tank” and “Sylvia.”

She and Torres, whose real name is Mackenzie Scott, recently spoke to Rolling Stone about the effort and their joint love of country music. “When I think of a genre that’s really fiercely about authenticity, usually I think of militant punks,” Baker noted. “But country is worse.”
Scott also recently commented on how the album is being labeled “queer country” during an appearance on The Daily Show. “I’m certainly proud of that,” Scott said. “We’re queer. But if it were up to me it would just be country.”
