Poppy took over Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (March 10) and gave a blistering performance of ‘The Cost Of Giving Up’.
The metal singer took the stage – which was adorned with fog and a patch of flowers while sporting a white shaggy dress and red gloves. The performance sees her delicately sing the song and then transform towards the end with her loud blistering vocals screaming: “Can’t push me further down in the trench / Back against the wall / So you wanna test me now?/ While the others beg and fail to repent / They were fit to suffer / And I will dig back out,” during the song’s breakdown.
‘The Cost Of Giving Up’ was featured on Poppy’s latest LP ‘Negative Spaces’. Previously speaking to NME about the album, she shared: “I feel this record is some of the heaviest [work] that I’ve done, but it’s also the most saccharine and sweet. There’s a feeling I get, when I’m sitting amongst the extremes, that feels very whole to me.”
Her performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! comes after she appeared as a guest during Knocked Loose’s performance on the show back in December. She joined the US hardcore punk group for a ferocious rendition of their collaborative single ‘Suffocate’. The former also performed some other tracks from their third and latest album, 2024’s ‘You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To’.
The epic TV appearance included blazing pyro, circle pits in the wild crowd, and next-level screaming from both Garris and Poppy. Knocked Loose played the hard-hitting and riff-heavy song in front of the audience as rain poured down at the outdoor venue.
Knocked Loose frontman Bryan Garris previously addressed the criticism and other similar complaints they received following their performance on social media, writing: “The other day Knocked Loose performed on @jimmykimmellive. For a long time now our goal has been to see how far we could squeeze this band into places where we don’t fit and I think this may be the biggest one. National television.”
Garris continued: “It feels like the ceiling gets higher for EVERYONE, every single day. We celebrate this together. Thank you so much.
“Walking down the hallway as we were escorted to [the] stage I’m looking to my left and right and seeing photos of all the celebrities that have been on the show over the years. Presidents, actors, musicians etc. I leaned over to [guitarist Isaac Hale] and said ‘this started in your garage’. He grabbed onto me and squeezed as hard as he could. That’s a moment I’ll never forget.” Garris signed off: “PS if it scared you, good.”
In other Poppy news, the singer recently covered Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Taste’ for Triple J’s ‘Like A Version’. She also released a t-shirt poking fun at a mix-up with Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante at the Grammys 2025.
