John Summit Says He’s Completed His ‘First Fully Sober Tour’

While he initially carved out a reputation as a hard partier, John Summit is changing his habits. On Monday (March 10), the producer announced via social media that his “first fully sober tour” is “in the books.”

“Not here to brag,” his statement continues, “I’m just extremely proud of myself that I can perform at my best with full confidence without relying on alcohol. It’s taken a long road to get here.” In the caption of his post he writes, “it ain’t much but it’s a start.”

The comments section is full of support for the achievement, with fellow producer Illenium, who is himself fully sober, writing, “bro f–k ya good for you,” and Sophie Hawley-Weld of Sofi Tukker writing, “best feeling ever.”

Summit is Billboard‘s current cover star, with the producer saying in the story that his current routine heavily incorporates exercise and getting enough sleep. These habits mark an evolution for the artist whose rise over the last few years was marked by social media posts often depicting drunken shenanigans. Summit even took Billboard on a run in Miami, explaining that given his wild schedule, exercise keeps him sane.

“Fitness is what grounds me, because I live a crazy life,” he shared. “Never know what time zone I’m in, don’t even know what city I’m in the half the time. There’s no more grounding activity than running, because it makes you focus on the moment, focus on your breathing, it’s my form of almost yoga and meditation.”

Summit’s upcoming tour schedule includes Ultra Music Festival in Miami, an April run through Australia and headline slots at festivals including Movement and Lightning In a Bottle. Ahead of all that, the producer headlines Billboard THE STAGE at SXSW Saturday, March 15, at Moody Amphitheater in Austin, Texas.
