Here’s the first trailer for Pink Floyd’s restored ‘Pompeii – MCMLXXII’ concert film

Pink Floyd have released the trailer for the newly restored version of their concert film Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII – watch below.

The new 4K restoration of the classic 1972 film is set to be released in cinemas and on IMAX worldwide from April 24, with tickets on sale now – find yours here.

The original film was directed by Adrian Maben and it sees the legendary band performing in the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii in October 1971, with no audience in attendance beyond the basic film crew. It features the band playing a range of music from their career up to that point, including ‘Echoes’, ‘Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun’ and ‘One Of These Days’.

A press release states: “Pink Floyd At Pompeii pre-dates the release of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’. The film documents what Pink Floyd did before they became giants of the album charts on both sides of the Atlantic – where their music remains celebrated to this day.

“Set in the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the ancient Roman Amphitheatre in Pompeii, Italy, this unique and immersive film captures Pink Floyd performing an intimate concert without an audience”.

The restoration has been made from the original 35mm negatives, which were rediscovered recently, with enhanced audio newly mixed by Steven Wilson.

The cinema release is also to be accompanied by a live album, released by Legacy Recordings on May 2.

Floyd drummer Nick Mason has said: “Pink Floyd: Live At Pompeii is a rare and unique document of the band performing live in the period prior to ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’.”

In other Pink Floyd news, a judge recently made a ruling in the ongoing case between bassist Roger Waters and the investigative journalist John Ware. The latter, who produced the documentary film The Dark Side Of Roger Waters, sued Waters for defamation after being labelled a “lying, conniving Zionist mouthpiece” by the musician.

Elsewhere, one of the producers of Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown is said to be working on a new project focused on the life of Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett.
