Seattle Reign Drops ‘Battle Cry’ Anthem for NWSL Season — and Ciara Loves It

Seattle women’s soccer has a new anthem! On Tuesday, Seattle Reign FC released “Stand Up,” sung by Washington musician Brittany Davis, for the National Women’s Soccer League’s 2025 season. Rolling Stone can exclusively premiere the track.

“When I was told that I was chosen to write this song, all I could see was the people,” says Davis, who is blind. “I knew that ‘Stand Up’ had to be huge… It was a battle cry, but for us all. So no matter who or where you are, you can sing this song and raise your flag to this march.”

Along with the new song, which features some of the group’s players, Reign will release a Jason Bergh-directed short film doc following Davis as she made the song, and exploring her story of resilience as a Black, queer, and blind woman living in the Seattle area. Davis started performing for Reign last year when she sang a cover of Andra Day’s “Rise Up” for a special match honoring U.S. Soccer legend Megan Rapinoe as the team retired her jersey number.

“I see these folks stand up for their community with the same fire and strength as they do on the pitch. It’s not just an organization, it’s a statement to that commitment to rise up on every level,” Davis tells Rolling Stone. “It was truly an honor to see this process through with such devoted people who believe in what it means to stand as one team.”

Davis is signed her to Seattle-based label Loosegroove, co-founded by Stone Gossard. The Pearl Jam guitarist lauded her as an “incredible keyboardist,” and has tapped her for his own performances. “Brittany Davis is the most compelling artist I’ve ever worked with. Her musical ear and keyboard skill, humor, honestly, and sheer courage is a wonder to behold,” he says.

Ciara and former Seattle Seahawk Russell Wilson, who are investors in Reign FC, also connected deeply with Davis’ story and her song, especially when it comes to uplifting women’s sports. “Brittany’s unique vision, the way she ‘sees’ music, and the anthem she’s created for the team is a direct reflection of the heart the team has,” Ciara says. “There’s no doubt this song will become a powerful rallying cry, igniting each home game with the same passion that will also be matched by an incredible group of women on the pitch.”

Seattle Reign FC will kick off their season against Gotham FC with a home game on March 15. The three-time Shield winners hope to step up their game after finishing second-to-last during the 2024 season.
