Earlier today (March 1), the singer took to her Instagram stories to tell fans: “I have a surprise,” and later followed up in a live video where she told her frequent collaborator Juice off camera to “play a little moment” of the new material.

The audio features the ‘Starships’ artist rapping: “Plastic, instantly classic” over spacey vocals. Later on in the 30-second clip, a male rapper features on a beat that calls back to her Trinidadian roots, which fans are saying marks the return of “Trinicki”.

It comes after her confirming that a new tour will be launched alongside the “next official album” back in November.

“Well let me clarify,” she wrote on social media late last year, “you’ll be notified of a tour in 2025. With the album. Not that the tour will start in 2025.”

That post came less than a month before the rapper dropped the final deluxe version of her 2023 album ‘Pink Friday 2’.

In a four-star review of the record, NME wrote: “‘Pink Friday 2’ feels like a consolidation and refinement of everything Minaj can do – including dropping pop culture references that no other artist would think of. Thirteen years after ‘Pink Friday’, Nicki Minaj hasn’t lost her ability to catch us by surprise.”

Meanwhile, earlier this year the ‘FTCU’ rapper responded to an assault lawsuit levelled against her by a former employee, claiming that the allegations are “false and frivolous”.

In January, a 10-page complaint was filed in Los Angeles, with Minaj and her Pink Personality company being named as lead defendants in the suit. The accusations included assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

An ex-employee of Minaj claimed that the rapper hit him in the face at a concert in Detroit, Michigan, last year, with Minaj’s lawyer Judd Burstein vehemently denying the accusations in a statement issued to Variety.

“At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs. Petty [Minaj’s married name], and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations,” Bernstein told the publication. He went on to denounce a report about the complaint published by TMZ.

“However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex-assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favour,” Bernstein added.
