The next offering from I Said I Love You First appears to sample the Cake song “Never There”
Selena Gomez previewed another song from her upcoming album with fiancé Benny Blanco, I Said I Love You First.
On Instagram, the singer/actress shared a snippet of the track “Talk,” a bustling pop tune with a thumping bass groove laced with a slinky synth riff (which appears to be based around a sample of the Cake song “Never There”). In her video, Gomez sits in a car and lip-syncs along with the line, “I’ll call you daddy cause I know you like that.”
A slightly longer fragment of “Talk” also appeared in a new iPhone commercial released Friday, Feb. 28. “Baby, I’m tired of waiting,” Gomez sings, “Go recharge your batteries/Come back to me/And make your mama proud.”
It’s unclear when Gomez and Blanco will release “Talk,” which would be the third song from I Said I Love You First. The couple announced the album earlier this year with first single, “Scared of Loving You,” which was co-written and -produced by Finneas. They followed that up with “Call Me When You Break Up,” featuring Gracie Abrams.
Gomez and Blanco confirmed their relationship in December 2023 and got engaged about a year later. Their new album, out March 21, is described as a celebration of their relationship and will chronicle the entirety of their story, from before they met to falling in love and looking towards the future together.
For Gomez, I Said I Love You will be her first album since 2020’s Rare (and first after she suggested to fans recently that her future would be focused more on acting than music). Blanco, meanwhile, hasn’t released an album since 2018’s Friends Keep Secrets, along with its 2021 follow-up deluxe edition, Friends Keep Secrets 2.
